Global Warming: Is it Fact or Fiction?
Global Warming: Is it Fact or Fiction?
The issue of global warming is all over every newspaper, and the news. Books and articles are published in relation to the issue continually and what people claim is actually going on, constantly changes as the years pass. So people who are not directly involved in the research and work that surrounds global warming, are naturally curious whether the whole issue is a fact or a fiction. There are arguments for both sides and both sides seem very compelling.
The proponents of the idea that global warming is both real and an impeding problem, say that a combination of carbon dioxide levels, pollution and the green house effect are slowing increasing the temperature of the earth. This, they say, will effect the ecology of the entire globe. The ice caps are said to melt and increase the water levels on the coasts, possibly covering up a significant amount of land. The increase in water temperatures may lead to move severe hurricanes and the increase in water volume may lead to more dangerous tsunamis and earthquakes. These are all predictions, however, scientists argue that the carbon dioxide levels can be directly measured and their effects are already being seen on a smaller scale, so it is only a matter of time.
On the other hand, some scientists argue against global warming stating that human activity can in no way directly effect the global climate. The earth, they say, goes through natural climate patterns and (as it has in the past) it can heat up and then cool down depending on things that humans have no effect on. In addition, they say that earth is in fact still coming out of a mini ice age which was said to have started ending at around the 1800s. So naturally, they say the earth is still warming up.
